Red Carpet Fashion: 2014 Met Gala

Fashion's biggest event of the year has finally arrived.  Tonight's Met Ball, which is a fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, is a tribute to Charles James, often referred to as "America’s best-known couturier."  Let's see how some of Hollywood's most fashionable interpreted the "White Tie & Decorations" theme.

One of the night's most anticipated couples to walk the red carpet was Kim Kardashian and Kanye West who opted for Lanvin.  While Kanye definitely nailed it, Kim was a bit of a bore in her strapless blue gown.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend looked like royalty in Ralph Lauren.  Chrissy always gets it right on the red carpet.  Do I spy a baby bump?

Rihanna looked stunning in a white crop top and fishtail skirt by Stella McCartney.

Selena Gomez opted for a gorgeous plum colored Diane von Furstenberg gown.

Taylor Swift rocked a custom embellished Oscar de la Renta gown.  Just into into that train!

Kendall Jenner was one of my fav looks of the night in this strapless Topshop gown.

Lupita Nyong'o might have ended her winning streak tonight.  Was she chanelling Josephine Baker in this beaded Prada number?!

Rita Ora looked amazing in a gold tulle DKNY gown styled with Cesare Casadei lace-up heels.

Katie Holmes looked a mess in this wrinkled Marchesa ballgown.  She got the theme right, but she didn't execute it well at all.

David and Victoria Beckham looked perfectly posh!  Victoria wore a white column gown from her own line while David wore a white dinner jacket and tuxedo pants.

Zoe Saldana looked gorg in a black and white printed, halter neck gown by Michael Kors.

Gabrielle Union was a total fail in this cropped, feathered Prada look.

Emmy Rossum looked beautiful in a floral Carolina Herrera ballgown.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were definitely dressed to the nines.

I was admittedly disappointed in Nicole Richie's choice in this Donna Karen Atelier frock.

Bradley Cooper looked quite dapper in Tom Ford.

Andy Cohen, who accompanied Sarah Jessica Parker, opted for a classic Ralph Lauren tux with tails.

Sarah Jessica Parker is my best dressed pick of the night!  She always wows at the Met Gala and this year she slayed the red carpet in a Oscar de la Renta gown with the designer's signature on the back (pic below).

Kate Upton looked like a bar wench in this sheer lace Dolce & Gabbana gown.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely, who accompanied Oliver Rousteing, wore Balmain.

Dita von Teese wore a stunning Zac Posen mermaid gown.  I love the dramatic red detail at the hem!

Lala Anthony opted for a super sexy purple cut-out gown by Cushnie et Ochs.

Solange Knowles kept to her quirky aesthetic in this fun, peach colored 3.1 Phillip Lim frock.  Not sure if I'm feeling the new hair.

Anna Wintour looked ready for Spring in her floral embellished Chanel Couture gown.

Beyoncé shut the red carpet down in a beaded Givency Haute Couture gown while Jay Z rocked a Givenchy tux.

Kristen Stewart went with an interesting Chanel Couture frock and Christian Louboutin pumps.

Giuliana Rancic opted for a Zac Posen gown and Christian Louboutin 'De Bout' pumps.

Karolina Kurkova truly understood the theme of the night and it showed when she walked the red carpet in this dramatic Marchesa ballgown.

Blake Lively slayed as usual!  She opted for a blush colored Grecian Gucci gown.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield take the cutest couple award!  Emma looked lovely in Thakoon.

Jessica Alba looked a bit washed out in her lace gown by Diane von Furstenberg.

Gisele Bundchen wore a showstopping Balenciaga lace gown.

Charlize Theron looked amazing, as usual, in a strapless Christian Dior gown.

Cara Delevingne was one of the few to forgo a gown and opt for trousers.  She rocked a head-to-toe Stella McCartney look.

Reese Witherspoon posed in a pretty pink Stella McCartney column gown.

Anne Hathaway showed a flash of toned tummy in this red Calvin Klein look.

Mary-Kate Olsen werked a striped vintage Chanel gown, while twin sister Ashley opted for a military-inspired Gianfranco Ferré.

Chloë Grace Moretz rocked an interesting Chanel Couture frock.

Lena Dunham looked amazing in this floral embroidered Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 Couture dress.  I love the high-low hem.

Olivia Munn shined in a bright yellow Diane von Furstenberg gown.

Naomi Campbell accompanied Riccardo Tisci in a white beaded Givenchy gown.

Erykah Badu rocked a custom Givenchy look.  I'm loving the beaded coat!

One of my favs from last night was definitely Frank Ocean who killed it in custom Givenchy.  My only concern is that his and Jay Z's jackets look a bit too similar to be "custom."

Miguel killed it in a Costume National tux.

Janelle Monae stuck to her usual black and white, but the embroidered Tadashi Shoji Fall 2014 tulle cape gave her look the drama that the Met Gala demands.  She styled her ensemble with  Jimmy Choo ‘Damek’ sandals

Who was your fav look of the night?  Who totally bombed?  Check out my top looks from last year's fête here.
